Mission, Purpose, Vision & History
MISSION
It is our mission to coach, motivate, inspire and transform those that have chosen the martial arts as a path for positively improving their lives!
PURPOSE
Our purpose is to teach, train and transform the unknowing into comprehensive citizens of the community. Citizens who are physically conscious, mentally astute and spiritually strong enough to navigate through the pressures of this world without succumbing to their negative emotions.
VISION
At Alpha Omega, we envision a community where people of all ages, backgrounds, abilities, and genders feel safe, valued, and inspired to work toward a more inclusive and prosperous future for all. Even when we disagree in matters. To this end, the lens through which we pursue our martial arts training is one of empowerment, equity, and skill-building. We train to build strength, both in body and character; to increase confidence, both in physical ability and personal potential; to seek flexibility and resiliency, both on the mat and in life. We believe the inherent values of our core tenets: modesty, harmony, courage, self-improvement, and perseverance can guide any human to create a rich and full life of endless possibilities.
HISTORY
Alpha Omega Martial Arts opened its doors in Wahoo, Nebraska on May 1, 2015. However, the foundational work of the school began in 1988 when Grandmaster Rowe opened his first martial arts club in Ames, Iowa.
Since then the process of developing a martial arts studio has evolved as a compilation of all he has learned. He began by simply writing down every teaching he had been exposed to, organized them into logical progressive steps, and the first curriculum was born. Over the next few years, he developed the library of techniques and combinations, filling in the blanks and expanding the style to include different fighting ranges and engagement levels, meeting with other martial artists to exchange knowledge and learn from one another. A desire to apply his skills in a practical laboratory of experiences eventually led to him spending time as a correctional officer with the Nebraska Department of Corrections, and both the Saunders County and Douglas County Department of Corrections.
Grandmaster Rowe has operated in many locations in the past. Some have been established as for-profit businesses others as non-profit organizations. Some of his schools have had some amazing amenities including a fresh juice bar, a martial arts pro shop, nutritional center, and massage facilities. The concept of creating outreach programs to help under-served rural America, particularly youth and women, developed during this time, and Master Rowe ran after-school and PE programs in several Nebraska schools and community centers. However, with little access to capital and no credit, this business was built upon sheer force of will and ultimately could not sustain its volume of output and services.
Eventually Michael decided that his calling was to provide martial arts instruction to the rural communities of Nebraska and sought to find a way to offer instruction for all that wanted to learn. This led to Alpha Omega being organized as a Nebraska Not-for-Profit entity in 2016 and the studio (Dojang) was located in Wahoo, Nebraska. The new business model was better suited for the outreach work Michael was doing, and the growing school has begun to find success in helping people of all ages and of a variety of backgrounds.
The core idea of engaging with martial arts as a method of self-realization and personal healing began to take shape and directly influence the future of the studio. By the time the Master Rowe retired from the United States Navy he had fleshed out how to functionally tie together the elements of body, mind, and spirit. 2019 saw the creation of the 5 Element concepts as he began to integrate the three selves (physical, emotional, ans spiritual).
Since 2016, Alpha Omega Martial Arts has been experienced steady growth, most notably in our youth program. Looking forward, we recognize that our core training concept it to build the youth of today into the leaders of tomorrow, but we also want to help the adult leaders of today reach for continuous improvements. It is our hope to expand our reach and deepen our impact in our community, continuing to offer a safe, transformational space for our youth and families.
